Digital Journal Page 12

It has been awhile since I created a journal page. This one is in regard to having another child. After every child I have had thus far, I have said, quite emphatically, 'this is my last!'. Again, my maternal clock is shifting into over drive. As my daughters get older and closer to going to school, I am struggling with what do with myself. Should I go back to school? Volunteer? Start a business? As I really have no clue and almost daily, it seems, my ideas and dreams change, there is one thing I know, I am a mother. A good mother. It is something I can't quit and will never regret doing. The one job I have always been on time for and the one I will never regret devoting my life to. So, perhaps, I'll have another. Someday. No, I am not pregnant. :)

Damn it. Spring better get here soon, cause I really think I'm starting to loose my mind.. another kid??? What am I thinking???

We are getting more snow today.. more!

Fragile threads.

I love old spools of thread. Wooden spools that hold fragile strings, those that snap quickly if pulled to hard.

Fragile threads that have served their purpose, held together delicate linens and silks. Even before the time of bright hues, there were threads. Full of function and practicality.

Fashion empires have been built on such a tiny structure; on such a fine line.

Friendships have been bound by them. Quilts for newly weds and newborns have been stitched together. Holes patched, and hearts healed by a single thread.

Fine lace, intricate patterns have been painstakingly created by such a simple device.

I love unwinding an old spool, slowly removing the signs of age to reveal the original, crisp hue. That is the one I use. I use it in my embroidery. The antique threads that show their age and if pulled too hard, snap.

Hiding from the winter cold.

Can you find me?

I am hiding from the winter cold, the frost's bite and the wind's fury.
Tucked beneath leaves, where the moisture lies.

Really, I do not have a green thumb, but at times my entire being is green. Green with envy of those who are warm and saturated with nature's moist touch.

I hide myself inside the comfort of tiny blooms and leaves.

Blend in, where perhaps I will be forgotten; left to my musings.
So I can ponder and dream of sodden fields, flower buds and things with wings.

The first image is obvious, but there is someone peeking at you from every image. Did you find them all?

Mind Wide Open Entry

The last time I participated in Mind Wide Open I strayed from my digital work and wasn't overly happy with the results. This time, I stayed true to my current path and am very pleased with how it came out. The other two images are of my grandmother at various points in her life. Not having a childhood image of her, it seemed fitting to use the one provided by Gail. The dates I used on the left are approximate and it starts at the beginning. A very good place to start.

Thank you Gail for hosting! I can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with!

I forgot to mention, Go Vote For Your Favorite once they are posted on Monday!! You still have a day to enter if you'd like!

New Journal Page

A new journal page. To see the others, click the 'journal' label below. I have been playing on facebook.com quite a bit right now. It is fun, a little strange connecting with those I haven't seen or talked to in a long while, but nice; familiar. You can still enter below to win the paper doll. It will be done at some point, but I have lost my steam. Need to go and check in with Kathryn, and glean some inspiration.

Tricky devils..

As a long time blogger here and on MySpace, I know how frustrating it can be for those who want to make their blog their own but just don't know how. There are alot of really cool sites popping up all over the place, such as TheCutestBlogontheBlock.com. If you know a few key pieces of info tho, you can personalize your blog your way too. It does pay to have a basic understanding of HTML. I first learned how to decipher it while using MySpace. Originally that was the only way to personalize your 'space'. Now, it reads almost as a second language to me. Here are some great sites for HTML help. Although, you might need a basic knowledge even to understand them. but give it a try! You never know what's going to happen, just be sure to back up your blog code first!
Good Luck!

The gathering.

Welcome to my home!
Please remember to thank our lovely hostess, Vanessa, for holding such a lovely bit of fun! You will find oddities and curiosities abound here.

Down Abbie's Road things are not so pretty, and most definitely not what they seem. Yes, all of the critters hang on our walls. Truly, they do.

Even Princess Katie has dressed for the occasion, wearing her best.

Please be sure to check to behind you, as the guests will be arriving all evening.

Even the tiniest of insects are joining the soiree.

I don't mean to boar you, alas, I fear, some of my guests are quite hard to bear.

Oh, deer, even the rats have begun to gather.

Spiders, however, will not be found in these parts as I find them just too gruesome!
But their tiny trails are left all over..

Perhaps you may find a bit of science, a bit of whimsy.

Always, good cooking.

Please have excellent conversations and meet new friends.

Don't forget your coat, as it is quite brisk out tonight.
Thank you for stopping by, perhaps I'll see you again.

It was a pleasure.
Don't forget to sign the guestbook as I'd love to visit you in return!

All Dressed Up..

Here is my submission to Mind Wide Open. I liked working with a 'real' piece, instead of a digital one this time. It reminds me of a shabby chic Christmas ornament, 'all dressed up' ready to be displayed! It measures 6 1/2" wide and 7 1/2" long.
I used an embroidery hoop as the frame and the 'canvas' is a piece of linen that I sewed antique lace, the picture frame, ribbon and the buttons to. It hangs from a loop of vintage pink ribbon and is embellished with a brass knob at the top and an architectural piece at the bottom. The back is covered in a lovely piece of vintage wallpaper. I think perhaps I'll list it for sale in my Etsy Shop. Thank you Gail for the inspiration! and thank you, ladies, for all of the eye candy you create each month! I can't wait to see what everyone else does.
Remember, voting starts tomorrow! Please leave a comment for your favorite piece!

Mind Wide Open

Here is my submission to Mind Wide Open. Gail will be posting all the entries tomorrow! Don't forget to go and vote for your favorite!

I am very happy with the way this came out. VERY different from the original image given to us, but the basic form (which is just lovely! - thank you Gail!) is there. Almost as if she is floating in another universe or dimension.

It was fun! I think there are 30+ Photoshop layers in this.
Click on the image to view it larger.

I can't wait to see what everyone else did!

Keeper of the Secrets

Keeper of the Secrets 8/7/08 Digital

Here is my submission for Mind Wide Open. I am so excited to see everyone's else's art pieces!! I originally wanted to do a light airy piece, but I just couldn't get that feeling and keep the key word 'secret' in play. All the Halloween stuff for sale is putting me in a Gothic mood, and some might think I'm nuts, but I'm ready for Autumn! It came out dark, mysterious, and there are most definitely secrets in this piece. Thank you Gail for hosting!! If you look close (please click to enlarge it!) you can see a lot of little details that might get missed.

Enjoy!

The Ancient Music of Water

This is a digital collage I just finished. Most of my work has been heavy, with dark saturated colors and I wanted to try something more liquid and ethereal. Hence, The Ancient Music of Water.
I have also lightened up my blog. A lot. Trying to unclutter and organize my life and I needed to do it here too. Hope you like the 'lighter' look, all my favs are still here, just as words instead.

Mind Wide Open

'Say Not Farewell' Digital Collage 6.07.08

I just finished this digital collage for Mind Wide Open. PLEASE go and peek at all the fabulous entries once they are posted! I can't wait to see how everyone else interpreted the theme and also how they incorporated the image. It was really fun to do and I truly enjoyed the challenge. Thank you so much Gail for hosting this!

I have been working just in digital format lately as I do not have the ability right now to pull out 'real' art supplies. It is very flexible and lots of fun! If you are interested in the elements I used please check out these sites for lots of great images!

A Rose Will Bloom

'She Dreams' Digital Collage 6.18.08

'A Rose Will Bloom' Digital Collage 6.17.08

I have been playing with some tools on Photoshop. I love the borders (distressed, etc..) that you can put around your images, but 1.) didn't want to pay for them and 2.) wanted to possibly incorporate them in designs to sell. To do that I needed to generate my own, so as to not worry about copyright infringement, etc. I really enjoy trying to figure things out, and at some point I'd love to take more PC design courses. But, for right now, I can self teach on my own time and again, it's free! I'm desperately trying to save up enough for a new fancy, schmancy laptop so I can work anywhere in the house and not have to worry about file size. Right now I'm close to collapsing our PC. Sometimes it takes forever to crunch the numbers on some of the files I'm using. hope everyone is enjoying their almost-summer months! Today is my son's last day of school and then the fun begins! Trips to the lake (about 2 minutes away), picnics, slip and slide,
soccer camp, etc. Enjoy!
