Red and White Accents..

Here are some of the long awaited kitchen pics.. the snow is so bright out the kitchen window it is hard to take nice photographs!

I replaced out the green Italian glass cantisters you can see here, with white ones with red lids from HomeGoods (on clearance for $5 each). They weren't my first choice but the price was right and so were the colors, so for now, they'll work. I added vintage 1950's cherry decals to the corners to change them up alittle.

The gingham curtains are a new accent as well. You can see the windows 'sans curtains' here. The two chickens on top of the cabinets were clearance finds at Marshall's. $5 each!! One had a chp on the top, but a spot of red nail polish fixed him up nicely.. You can just see the lovely red and white tea towel that Rosie gave me hanging from the dishwasher! Thank you Rosie!
Above are two little wall hangings I painted to help accessorize. I have never hung things on the back wall of my counters before. I like the look and at 97 cents a piece for the wood and alittle paint, they are priceless! You can see a close up of a cherry decal on the apples plaque. (I know, apples and cherries, but who cares!)

Below is another sign I made.. we had some scrap lumber left from the house construction, so with a little paint, and some love, voila!

I know, the changes aren't dramatic, but it does have quite a different feel now. The red and white really add nice splashes of color and I do have some more sign ideas for above the stove and for the wall space above the top cabinets. As my budget allows I plan to add some roosters and chickens. My husband is thinking about getting some real chickens soon, so they would be very fitting in my new, country style kitchen!

Oh Abbie, I love your kitchen. The red and white accents are fresh and charming. I so love your painted cupboards. I made such a mistake when I picked out cabinets for this house.....now I just want hire someone to paint them....but I am afraid to ask how much that will cost! :-) Rosie

I think the changes are very fresh and charming.

You know, I'm not as swift as you and so I was wondering why it's been such a challenge to take an inside picture anymore...all that snow! Of course!

I think the changes are incredible...as you said, a little bit of wood, a little bit of paint..some fabric and some "steals" on accessories -- and voila, a "new" kitchen. It looks so bright, airy and cheeful!! Well done Abbie!

I love red and white... especially in kitchens! My husband wants chickens, too, however I do not embrace the idea as well as you! I do have a rooster pic in my kitchen, though...

Happy decorating,
Karrie

You did a wonderful job! My kitchen happens to be white with red accents too, and I have come to love it.
I miss Marshall's and TJ Maxx and Targets and Filene's Basement, a whole lot here!
Your soapstone sinks really are a dream.
