Ice

Some say the world will end in fire;
Some say in ice.

From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate

To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
~Robert Frost

We are covered in ice here in our cold corner of the New Hampshire. Barely any snow... just freezing rain. I'd almost think we were in the Pacific Northwest by the weather we have had this winter.

Snow!

We have been dumped on the past week. Two fairly large snow storms that just seem to add to the white endless winter. Here is a peek out my windows. The only ones who truly enjoy it are the squirrels. The table is covered in birdseed that the poor birds can't get at, and the squirrels have a huge network of tunnels allowing them exclusive access.

Hiding from the winter cold.

Can you find me?

I am hiding from the winter cold, the frost's bite and the wind's fury.
Tucked beneath leaves, where the moisture lies.

Really, I do not have a green thumb, but at times my entire being is green. Green with envy of those who are warm and saturated with nature's moist touch.

I hide myself inside the comfort of tiny blooms and leaves.

Blend in, where perhaps I will be forgotten; left to my musings.
So I can ponder and dream of sodden fields, flower buds and things with wings.

The first image is obvious, but there is someone peeking at you from every image. Did you find them all?

Journal Page 10

I took a few moments today to create a new journal page. Something, anything other than laundry and dinner. Perhaps I'll start to plan out our first family vacation. Yep, the first. We aren't going until November of 2010, but it might help me get through the long days of winter. Ironic isn't it? The shortest days of the year, to me, are the longest. Where are we going you ask? Well, to the mecca of the all American family of course! Disney World. :)
To see the other 9 pages click the 'journal' label below.

A wee splash of sunshine...

I didn't add too much, (at least I don't think so) just enough yellow and bright green to freshen things up. We need the sunshine around these parts lately as the winter dull drums have hit me hard. Some glass containers on the cabinets with lemons, new yellow dish towels and a yellow rooster mat for the floor. I think I might paint the cherries on my 'Keep It Simple' sign yellow. Since I made it, I can paint them whatever color suits my fancy! :) I also took down the curtains to let more light in.
The three tiered rack is a new addition to the kitchen too. I think I found that on clearance at Lowe's for $6 last year. It had been hanging out in a closet since then as I thought it might be too tall for the space. I like it. It helps make the yellows, greens and oranges the focal color.
I picked up a package of four place mats, the fun green print above, on clearance at HomeGoods for $4. That's only 1$ a piece! Looovveee a bargain!
The cutting boards I have had for years. When I realized the colors were perfect I switched out these wall plaques for them.

The antique wooden bowl above was my grandfathers. Every family gathering he'd pop popcorn on the wood stove in his kitchen and then put it in this bowl. After he passed away it was one thing I asked for from his home. Can I tell you, the damn thing stinks to high hell! All the years of butter being put in it, are, well, let's just say I can't clean it. I've tried. If it doesn't get touched, its not too bad. I just love to look at it though. So, I bring it out in the winter time, because in the summer heat, it's unbearable!

What do you think? Do you like the yellows and greens or the RED ?

Hope you are finding a bit of sunshine!
I'll have picks of a new chair and also some new pics of the red room for you soon.

A Christmas Treat

Oh! The delight of it all! Bright colors, sweets stuck to candies, chocolates and treats! Sticky frosting, that tickles your tongue,
and a large jolly man who lets you eat lots, but only if your young! Young at heart I say, only for those who enjoy the day.
The sparkle, the glitter the shimmery sheen.
For those who think that candy is keen!
Ginger breads, gumdrops and kisses galore!
When he calls we come running, hungry for more!
He jiggles his belly with a "Ho Ho Ho!"
While tall gumdrop spires are lined up in a row.
Come one! Come all! Enjoy this fine season! Come on, have a nibble! Try it!
For when it is over, beware, for it'll be time for a diet!
Merry Christmas!

The gingerbread house was made by my very talented children. It sits on a cake stand surrounded by cotton fluff in our kitchen. The Baking Santa is my favorite. Sorry about the very poor poetry. :P I am punch drunk from baking, wrapping, making and photographing.

Wow. White Fluffy Puffy Stuffy. Wow. I tell ya, wow.

We had a foot of snow fall on Friday and into Saturday.

Now, we are having another 12" to 18" fall today. We are precariously balancing our sanity with the thankfulness that we still have power. 25 thousand in NH have been without it for over a week now.

I'm thinking that perhaps I'll BBQ. Burgers on the grill anyone?

As I type, the wind and snow is swirling around the house so quickly that I can't see the grill on the deck anymore. Maybe I'll skip the burgers tonight.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep. I went and hid there yesterday for a moment to get away from the two housebound, stir crazy, wild eyed monsters that were once my sweet little girls.

Hope everyone else is surviving!
