Road Trip!

Bright and early tomorrow morn I am packin' up the three kiddos and my grandmother. Our destination is my father's in Ottawa, about 7 hours away if the Travel Gods smile upon us gently.

When I was a child we traveled constantly. The top photo is of my eldest brother, my mom and myself (the wee one..) in Paris.. circa 1978-ish... at that time we lived in Naples, Italy and my parents owned the finest of travel accommodations. A green VW bus, custom outfitted with a pop-up sleeper. We used it well and whenever the chance happened we were off and cruisin' Europe.
Don't ya just love the pink sleepy PJ's with the feet? I can remember those so well! The toes were way too long and the white felted plastic tips flopped as I walked. Anyway, I think every person in my family has very fond memories of our adventures. I don't remember most, as I was so young, but I have the pictures to prove it!

So, anyway, off I go, to make a few memories for my children and for myself. Wish me luck! Honest, wish me luck, cause I'm really not so sure about the 7 hours thing with a 10 month old, a two and half yr old, a nine yr old and my grandmother of all people! I will return sometime on Tuesday, hopefully with all my hair.

Have a fabulous weekend dear friends!!
xoxo~
Abbie

Love your photos of the unremembered journeys through Europe. Your traveling concerns sound like the stuff of novels and movies. ;>

Have a grand time, Abbie. Go with the flow!

You'll do just fine Abby. Just tell the kids they can't ask "Are we there yet?"

It's wonderful that you were able to travel, even though you don't really remember it you can tell people at a cocktail party, "Oh yes, I've traveled the continent...when I lived in Naples!"

I love, love, love the VW bus, but of course you know I'm a car nut.

Will be anxiously awaiting your return and tales from Canada.

Enjoy the road trip. Savor the memories you are making with your children. It's funny but it's usually the small things that make the best memories.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the VW bus! I love it and so would my oldest daughter. Belive it or not, that's her "dream car."

you'll do great...building lovely memories for your kiddos. Loved the pics and especially you in your pink jammies!

I was reading Blueberries for Sal to my Littles last night and was struck at the resemblance of your profile pic and one of the first illustrations of Little Sal's mama! And the setting is in the Northeast too...so now I shall always think of you when I read that book!

Have a great road trip!

Hello Abbie - I'm new to your site - I love the "rememberies" of your travels and am green with envy - I am an "armchair traveler" but love all the photos and info I can get. I look forward to reading more of your past posts. Have a wonderful & safe trip-

Wonderful photographic memories of your youthful travels...pink footed pjs and all!!

Have a wonderful vacation Abbie..hopefully everything has thawed in Ottawa (they had it worse with snow and winter than we did in Toronto)...maybe some of the tulips will even be pushing up!!

Love your new banner btw!!!

Like you...some of the most wonderful memories I have are of summer trips with my family. While we never went overseas, we travelled the US camping and sailing. I remember one summer we spent 3 weeks on a sail boat in Kentucky and then we explored caves and mountains...I still remember canoeing with my brother and hiking in Colorado. My hubbie and I are determined to give our own kids those memories and we take a trip at least once a year! I hope you and your family enjoy making your own priceless memories! See you when you return! Angie

Ok, obviously I love the Eiffel tower pic, but really, I have to respond on the VW bus. I swear, I have the same pic of me standing in the same spot, with the same type of pjs on. Only difference is our bus was white and I had a pacifier in my mouth. I have so many memories in that bus. I love this trip down your memory lane.

The kids might just surprise you. I am sure you packed plenty of activities and will have great fun.

Be safe and enjoy!
