A wee splash of sunshine...

I didn't add too much, (at least I don't think so) just enough yellow and bright green to freshen things up. We need the sunshine around these parts lately as the winter dull drums have hit me hard. Some glass containers on the cabinets with lemons, new yellow dish towels and a yellow rooster mat for the floor. I think I might paint the cherries on my 'Keep It Simple' sign yellow. Since I made it, I can paint them whatever color suits my fancy! :) I also took down the curtains to let more light in.
The three tiered rack is a new addition to the kitchen too. I think I found that on clearance at Lowe's for $6 last year. It had been hanging out in a closet since then as I thought it might be too tall for the space. I like it. It helps make the yellows, greens and oranges the focal color.
I picked up a package of four place mats, the fun green print above, on clearance at HomeGoods for $4. That's only 1$ a piece! Looovveee a bargain!
The cutting boards I have had for years. When I realized the colors were perfect I switched out these wall plaques for them.

The antique wooden bowl above was my grandfathers. Every family gathering he'd pop popcorn on the wood stove in his kitchen and then put it in this bowl. After he passed away it was one thing I asked for from his home. Can I tell you, the damn thing stinks to high hell! All the years of butter being put in it, are, well, let's just say I can't clean it. I've tried. If it doesn't get touched, its not too bad. I just love to look at it though. So, I bring it out in the winter time, because in the summer heat, it's unbearable!

What do you think? Do you like the yellows and greens or the RED ?

Hope you are finding a bit of sunshine!
I'll have picks of a new chair and also some new pics of the red room for you soon.

xoxo~
Abbie

the yellows and greens hon, every time. love what you have done in the kitchen, and I'd go ahead and paint those cherries too - could they become flowers? can't really see on the 'puter.
happy new year.

A happy kitchen. Love it. I use a 3 tiered rack in my kitchen for my onions, tomatos and garlic. Makes it easy to grab them when cooking and I like their colors out in the open... This is a lovely post.

Hi Abbie, perfect cheer up decorations for the grey dull time of year! I can feel with you, this dull grey weather got me in December as well. I send you some sunshine over, we still don't have it a lot but every other day a couple hours.....so some sun your way!
Concerning colors, definitely lime and yellow, light orange for me right now....red it not really attractive at the moment. Feel like some freshness as well and winter just started, still so long till spring! Bummer, oh well, I guess we keep ourself cheered up with lot's of greens, yellows and lime on blogs to view!
Smiles and hugs your way, Anke ;)

Gorgeous kitchen! I like it much better in the yellows and greens. I love your granfather's wooden bowl, but I'm glad I don't have to smell it! My sister gave me a cabinet made from wood that had been in their barn for years, and especially when it's humid, it smells musty. If anyone knows how to get rid of that smell, please let me know!

On a day like today that color scheme is a warm welcoming sight!

I love your kitchen. I would be so inspired to cook if I had a kitchen as lovely as that.

You are waaaaaay ahead of me. I still need to de-Christmas.

Abbie,
your kitchen is charming - I LOVE the yellows and greens (especially after for those suffering from Christmas-red retina burn!)

And I LOVE that bowl - what a treasure. Too bad the malodorous problem developed from its past usage. Do you think lemon oil would help freshen and cleanse it? Or maybe Murphy's Oil Soap?

Seems a shame to have a family heirloom rendered useless.

Your kitchen is so pretty! I love the cheery yellows. Just the ticket for grey winter days. What if you shellac the wooden bowl from your grandfather? It might seal away the smell. Rub with lemon juice and salt?

I see you have a chicken dish on your microwave. So do I! I refer to her as my Rolodex Hen. Inside I stow away business cards and info on business card sized pieces of cardstock. I adore chicken dishes.

I LOVE the color of your kitchen cabinets can you tell me the color and the green on the walls in the room with the plaid couch?
How I love the red walls but am afraid I can't go that bold, we plan on selling the home in a few years so trying to stay pretty neutral.
thanks
